Garden Lighting for a Magical Garden This Summer

Garden Lighting for a Magical Garden This Summer

Summer is here and if you are anything like us, you will be trying to spend as much time as possible in your garden, especially in the evenings with the temperature being that much warmer. Not only do you need to make sure your garden lighting is good enough so you can stay in your garden for longer, but you will want to create an atmosphere that will capture the perfect mood for those long drawn out evenings, garden parties and BBQ’s.

Here’s our top tips on lighting your garden so you can stay in your garden for longer this summer:

Gentle LightingGarden lighting

With the evening daylight lasting longer, lights that gently fade away into the evening are great for offering an ambient glow.  Focus on lighting specific areas, such as where you dine or a seating area. For the more extravagant look, you could add lighting under plants, spot lights for walkways or even illuminate sculptures.

Create Shadows

Adding shadows by positioning lights in your garden in a specific way is great for creating the right mood for your garden and it also adds an air of mystery. Never get rid of shadows altogether in your garden, as you do not want the lights to be too bright and become harsh.

Dimmer Switches

If you have a variety of lighting in your garden in a number of places, dimmer switches and having them on different circuits are a great idea. By doing this, you can turn lighting down or up depending on the time of night and amount of light you need. Plus, by having them on different circuits you can be specific on which areas you wish to illuminate depending on the mood you wish to create or the occasion.

Use Outdoor Rated Light Bulbs

Use outdoor rated light bulbs for outside use. Not only is it safer to do so, they are designed to outstand all weather conditions, including temperatures and the rain. Check the fine print to make sure it’s suitable for outside use. If it can survive in a freezer or an oven, it can probably survive outdoors.

Solar Lighting

Solar lighting is a great cost effective and convenient option if you are looking to set the right ambiance in the summer for fun gatherings that allows the party to continue into the night with no requirement of a mains to power them. Solar lights use the sunlight to charge and provide illumination. Once charged, they can provide light for up to 10 hours, but this is dependent on the weather and the positioning of the solar lights, to ensure they get enough daylight sun.

If you are wanting to install lighting into your garden so you can stay out longer over this summer, make sure you use a certified and professional electrician to complete the electrical work. It’s not worth the risk doing it yourself and they will be experienced and have the knowledge required to offer you the best advice, to ensure you get exactly what you want.
