Protect your home with Security Lighting

Holiday season is creeping up on us and the children will be breaking up for their summer holidays very soon. You and your families will be packing your cases ready to fly to a hot, sunny destination. The last thing you should need to worry about is keeping your home safe whilst you are away.

Your home suddenly becomes a burglar’s haven when you are away, and it is an extremely tempting time for burglars.

There are some simple steps you can take to make sure that your home is left as safe and secure as possible when you go on holiday at any time of the year.

These are some security lighting ideas, tips and tricks to keep burglars at bay.

Lighting Installation

A house that appears full of life and occupied is less tempting to burglars. The installation and use of effective lighting systems in and around the home can make it appear as if someone is home, even when you are out.

Using timer switches or controls switches with an app to light up your home when you are out.

If you are into your technology, you can use an app on phone to access your lighting system wherever you are and whenever you want.

If you prefer not to rely on new technology you can use plug in timer switches on lamps which means they will automatically turn on at a set time each day you can set the time to suit the time of year depending on what time it gets dark, try to vary the timer setting for each room .

Using a mobile app to control your lighting and heating means you can turn lights on and off at different times each day.  You can even set your heating so that you can warm your house up to avoid arriving back to a dark, chilly home. It also makes it appear as though someone is in, which acts as a deterrent.

Install security lighting

In addition to switching on interior lights, you may also want to install exterior security lighting for your property.

Exterior or outdoor lights like these can help to secure your home from burglars.

If you hear a noise, you can check out what’s going on outside; an intruder, or more commonly, a cat, or fox walking through your garden, but at least you can be in control, check what has set the light off and put your mind at rest.

Motion activated security lighting

Motion activated systems are a great way to secure your home and scare off burglars. As soon as movement is picked up by the sensor the light will come on. Getting the sensor in the optimum position is crucial so that the intruder is picked up as soon as possible so the light floods the area exposing where the intruder is.

Flood Lights

Flood lighting is widely used on industrial or larger properties such as sports grounds, construction sites, rural farms and industrial yards. It is typically accompanied by CCTV cameras and so any activity is picked up on screen. The combination of flood lighting and CCTV helps to dissuade burglars.

Wall Lights

If you want to keep it simple, installing wall lights outside your doors can be effective. Wall lights give your home a welcoming appearance and make it easier for you to locate the lock and get indoors quickly in the dark when you return home. They also offer the chance to see who is at your door before you open it.
