Signs Your Home May Need A Rewire

Ensuring the electrics in your home are safe and as they should be is vital to the safety of you and your family. Your electrics are used on a daily basis, so it is important that they are to the standard they need to be.

Often older properties are in need of a rewire or sometimes when you buy a new property you are advised to have the electrics inspected. Again, it is vital that you do this.

If you are lucky enough to live in a newer property, the chances are that your electrics are in the right condition.

To help, we have created this blog on signs that your home may be in need of a rewire:

My lighting keeps flickering

This can often be as simple as a bulb not screwed into the fitting correctly. However, if this is not the case and if the problem keeps occurring this could be a fault with the wiring. If you have checked the bulb and all seems fine, then it is time to get it looked at.

I have had a shock from my sockets

If you have used a switch in your property and experienced a shock of any nature, then this could well be a problem with the electrics, and it needs urgent assessment.

The circuit is tripping

If you are experiencing your electric circuit tripping on a regular basis, then this often means that the circuit has too much pressure on it. In reality, it is trying to tell you that it cannot handle what is going on. Your electrics could well be overloaded and this needs to be rectified. It does not necessarily mean you need a full rewire but either way, it needs to be addressed.

I can smell burning

Naturally, if you can smell burning in your home no matter the reason this can be quite scary. If this does happen and you are not sure what the issue is, then it is vital you turn off your electrics and contact a professional electrician such as East Kent Electrical.

The sockets are coming off the wall

It can be that over the years the sockets or light switches in your home become loose and start to move away from the wall. This can lead to dangerous situations. Often these can be simply screwed back correctly to the wall but you may need to contact an electrician if they have come away or look to be in bad condition. This is not an area you want to take any chances in.

It is vital if you have any of the above problems they are looked at by a professional electrician. It might not mean a full rewire but to know that your electrics have been checked and are safe will be important to you.
